Message from the founder

While we plan to hold 2022 Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii in September, we are happy to announce that 11th International Ukulele Contest will be held online again.

During this long-lasting pandemic, I am sure a lot of people are experiencing some sort of stress, and it could be possible that children are feeling that stress more than adults are. Therefore, it is my wish to let ukulele heal your souls, as well as give you new opportunities in life.


To our keiki: I believe you can create your own dreams and goals, by participating in a contest like this. You also get a chance to work hard, trying your best to achieve what you want. I understand that it’s hard to be evaluated or judged by others sometimes. It requires a lot of courage in yourself. But, I really think such courage is what we all need to start something new. It will open up opportunities, which will lead to a positive view of life. Please use this contest entry period as meaningful time.

To our adult participants: This is your chance to share your ukulele talent all over the world, by rediscovering the ukulele’s wonderful and fun nature with many other ukulele enthusiasts.

I am looking forward to receiving many entries!

2022年のウクレレピクニック・イン・ハワイは9月に開催予定しておりますが、第11回インターナショナル・ウクレレコンテストを前回同様、オンラインで一足早く開催することになりました。
コロナ禍が長引き、大人たちが苦労している中で、子どもたちは大人以上にストレスを抱えていると思います。ウクレレが子どもたちの心を癒してくれることを願うだけでなく、さらに、ウクレレが子どもたちにチャンスを与えることもできるのではないかと思っています。コンテストに参加することによって自分で目標を作る、それに向かって夢を持つ、夢に向かって努力する、それができるチャンスとなるのです。
人に自分の演奏を観てもらうこと、そして評価してもらうということはとても勇気が必要だと思います。しかし、勇気を持って一歩踏み出すことはその後の人生をポジティブにしてくれるはずです。この期間をぜひ充実した時間として過ごしてほしいと思います。
もちろんウクレレを弾きなれた大人の方々には世界のウクレレ仲間を前に自分の腕前を試してみることをお勧めします。あらためてウクレレの素晴らしさと楽しさをたくさんの人たちと分かち合うことができることでしょう。たくさんの方々の参加を期待しています。
